Foxes and scarves by *Vaelyane
I’m on a roll!
Another quick coloured version of an older sketch. You can expect to see more in the future, between larger paintings. ;)
Coloured a sketch I posted here a while ago as a test for the stumpy pencil photoshop preset… Turns out I really like it! I can see why many people seem to use it.
A step by step for this piece: http://vaelyane.tumblr.com/post/40591299055/le-dernier-palier-by-vaelyane-i-hope-your
For curious people! Darkness was a big part of the story I was drawing about, which is why the painting is so contrasted.
Le dernier palier by *Vaelyane
I hope your monitors aren’t too dark!
This illustration was painted last august for a non-profit French webzine around the theme of catacombs and underwater depths! I illustrated a short-story called “Le Dernier Palier”. If you like sci-fi and/or fantasy short-stories, and can read French, you can download the webzine for free over here: http://www.motsetlegendes.com/
Reblob and share art tips that really made an impact on you, I’m curious. Here’s a couple of mine from long ago.
- Black and white are never really black and white.
- It really doesn’t matter what color the shadow is so long as the shadow itself looks right.
- Draw what you want to look at. Similarly, figure out why you want to draw a thing.
Mmmmh, I hope what I point out won’t be too obvious, but… What impacted me most was :
- Imagining everything in 3D while drawing (I can’t even begin to tell you how it changed my life)
- Using circular gradients to focus the lighting before starting to paint
…and as a teaser, a tiny preview of the digital painting I’m currently working on. See you soon! ;)
And another sketch from a couple of months ago. I feel strangely ambivalent towards this kind of fish. They look incredibly silly, and i can’t decide whether it’s absolutely awesome or just plain terrible!
Hey there, it’s been a while again! And since I love you, here’s a sketch of my boring stuff on my boring nightstand! You’re welcome! :D
On a slightly more serious note, I wanted to post a drawing for the New Year, even though I’m not actually celebrating the darn thing. I intended to show you a digital painting I finished back in August and haven’t posted anywhere online yet, but I decided to wait a little longer. Don’t worry, you’ll see it in January!
I hope you all had a good year, and I wish you the best for the next one, everyone! I’m happy to have you as my followers, it somehow makes me feel my work isn’t so bad after all, which I really need. Thank you for being around.
Onwards to the New Year!

Posted another one of these! I will never cease to profess my love for pointless ornaments. <3
Hello again, people!
I’m very busy working for my local uni, but here’s a small sketch from my current sketchbook, which I also have to fill as homework, although my teacher doesn’t really want to see imaginary people.
This sketchbook is hardbound instead of spiral bound like my usual ones, to our teacher’s request. I found it particularly annoying to scan, so I took a picture and fiddled with it using PS! Sorry for the grainy quality.
I feel a bit strange about studying plastic arts, I’ve always been an illustrator at heart and only now do I clearly see how different plastic artists’ conception of art is. I’m not nearly as expressive as I should be to fit their mold… I’m too methodical and I’m more interested in telling stories and concepts through drawing than the act of drawing itself. Too bad there is no illustration section in French universities! (or at least, none that I know of…)
How do you feel about the difference between plastic arts and illustration?
For vaelyane. I hope you like it! It was a lot of fun to do.
She finished it! I’m absolutely elated. ^3^ What a gorgeous atmosphere! I feel I can’t thank her enough!

Base values for the background paint.
Been up all night. I think I will sleep now! Or stay up and do more art. But I will probably sleep.
AND LOOK AT THE PRETTY BASE COLOURS! I wish mine looked half as good. o:

The lines for one of the 1000 follower giveaway winner’s commission.
I had the choice to put them in any situation/environment and I am doing trees and water again. I have talked about how much I hate painting trees and water, and yet I keep doing it. Why?
*flailing her arms in a sudden outburst of joy*
Look! It’s my witch!
The little bird on the right-hand corner is the cherry on top of a very, very delicious cake. Oh, thank you so much, miss crispy-gypsy!

Hello there! I dropped by to say hi in-between college work.
I gathered a few sketches of my little Lightningale, ranging from last year to last week. I didn’t post all the drawings I made of her, but her face keeps changing every time…
